class description
Functional Movement: Open Level Classes blend preparatory movement  supported by breath (vinyasa), active stillness, energy locks (bandha), attention to alignment of joints, and mindful awareness through gaze (driste). The holding of postures (one minute or longer) is followed by vinyasa which is intended to restore  organic mobility, fluidity, and balance. Students are encouraged to practice with compassion and a sense of  inquiry and Self-discovery. The dynamic balance of the classes increases the body's supple strength and flexibility while supporting the mind's clarity. Appropriate for beginners in good physical condition who enjoy a challenge, or those who wish  to develop a more subtle level of awareness and understanding of one's Self and the practice of Yoga.
Fundamentals These classes introduce students to the language of alignment principles, proper warming and preparation of joints and spine, steadiness of breath and gaze, and engagement of internal support actions. Recommended for beginners or those unfamiliar with yoga, the  emphasis is on increasing the student's understanding of her own uniqueness, and how to listen to the body in each moment.  Simple movements and basic postures with variations are offered in order to increase strength, flexibility, balance and concentration. Students are encouraged to practice with both compassion and a sense of adventure, while respecting the limits the body may have.
Respite and Renewal Classes are committed to restoring physical and energetic balance to bodies stressed by repetitive movement, extended periods of sitting or other  issues. The emphasis is on support and care of the spine, proper preparation and warming up of joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments, and use of the breath. Included in every class are alignment principles, clarity of inner seeing, and compassionate mindfulness. Students are encouraged to practice Ahimsa, non-harming, and to honor the body/breath as it is in the moment. Meditation and breathing (pranayama) included.

Adaptive and Chair Yoga Classes offer the benefits of yoga postures and movement, breathing techniques and meditation to those with special needs. Gentle and therapeutic, as well as trauma-informed, these classes offer students an opportunity to safely interact and share their experiences.
